What is Counselling & Psychotherapy?
Counselling and psychotherapy offer a confidential, non-judgemental, supportive environment in which you can explore, process and potentially re-frame the experiences, thoughts and feelings that may be presenting challenges in your life.. It can help you to focus on those issues which are uniquely personal to you, understand them and lead to greater self-awareness, autonomy and growth.

What type of therapy do you offer?
My postgraduate qualification is in Person Centred Therapy, which is a humanistic and non directive form of psychotherapy. This is my foundational training, and means that I meet you and what you bring to our sessions with acceptance, empathy and honesty - and rather than giving advice or an “intervention” I offer a space which empowers you to move forward in healing, growth or change. There is more info on my approach here
-
Where and when do you practice?
I offer appointments on Thursday and Friday, as I balance private practice with my NHS work. On Thursday afternoon and evenings I work from the Tara Trust which is in the West End of Edinburgh, right across from Haymarket Station. On Friday I work from a dedicated space within my home in central Portobello. Sessions take place weekly or fortnightly, and we can talk about the duration of therapy both in our first session and any subsequent sessions

What professional bodies are you a member of?
I am registered with the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy. This means that I am required to have an accredited qualification, regular supervision, and undertake continuous professional learning as well as abiding by their ethical framework. I am also registered with Yoga Alliance Professionals, the Nursing and Midwifery Council and the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) which means I follow all GDPR & Data Protection Law guidelines

Counselling & Psychotherapy - what's the difference?
In essence there is an overlap - as both therapies can help you to make sense of your feelings, make changes in your life or process experiences. Counselling can often take a shorter term “shape”, while psychotherapy is often longer term and looks more closely at emotional or behavioural difficulties, patterns and life experiences.

Do you offer online therapy?
Sessions are primarily face to face in central Edinburgh or Portobello. In some instances I can offer online sessions. These generally take place when we have worked face to face together for a period of time, but circumstances like location or illness mean that online sessions can support the continuity of our work. I don’t work exclusively online, however I can recommend trusted colleagues who do if this is something you are interested in.
-
What are your fees and do you offer low cost therapy?
In the first instance I offer a 30 minute session at no cost, or a full length 50 minute session at a reduced rate of £35 so that we can explore how we might work together. Psychotherapy sessions (50 mins) are then priced at £60 and Integrative sessions blending yoga and psychotherapy (60 mins) are £70. I have two low cost places available for those who would otherwise be unable to access therapy and am happy to be contacted about these.
-
Can I make a referral on behalf of someone else?
I understand that there are occasions where we can see that therapy might be supportive for those close to us. Whilst I can answer enquiries around my availability or way of working from anyone who gets in touch, to be able to arrange an initial consultation I need to hear from a client directly.

Are there any areas in which you specialise?
The short answer is no! There are some particular client groups with whom I have more experience, and both my current NHS work/some of my previous roles prior to training as a psychotherapist mean that I have been able to build specialist knowledge and skills. However it is rare that I draw on this, as my way of working sees you as the expert on your own life. I love the diversity of the client’s I work with and am unlikely to narrow my focus in terms of who and “what” I work with.
